Nissan Leaf to get minor range boost, prove Moore's Law doesn't apply to EVs

Image
Fifteen months and 10,000 American sales later, Nissan is preparing a 2013 overhaul of its Leaf EV. What green and fresh bounties can we expect? Leather seats, a "darker" interior and more efficient heater, which could let the EV go up to 20-25 miles further in cold-weather conditions. Sounds minor to our comfortably warm ears, and there's no specific mention of inductive charging (depicted above) either. On the other hand, the 2012 model already hiked up prices and Nissan probably has to stick closely to the current $35,000 bracket or risk being run down by another all-electric, all-emotional hatchback that's also due next year.

Ad Exodus Dooms Limbaugh's Model

David Brock, Politico
The financial model that fueled Rush Limbaugh’s radio show seems to have disintegrated in recent weeks, with at least 100 advertisers reportedly abandoning his radio program. For more than two decades, “The Rush Limbaugh Show” has promoted his brand of misogyny, racism and general intolerance to an audience of more than 15 million people on as many as 600 radio stations. He has accused actor Michael J. Fox of “exaggerating the effects” of Parkinson’s disease; called the National Organization for Women “nags” who...

Walter Block's Upcoming Lectures

In the next little while, I?m going to be a busy boy. On Thursday, March 22, I debate Prof. John Clark of the Loyola Philosophy Dept. on ?Two very different anarchist philosophical traditions.? His views, I think, will be aligned with Kropotkin, Chomsky, and Bookchin; mine with Spooner and Rothbard. Room 208 Miller Hall. Free [...]

Tyga's careless world was hit with quite a bit of drama on Monday night following a concert in Omaha, Nebraska. Omaha police confirmed with MTV News that two members of Tyga's entourage were shot and suffered minor wounds when a van that the Young Money rapper was traveling in took on gunfire after his show at the Sokol Auditorium in downtown.

Tyga's artist Honey Cocaine, real name Sochitla Sal, took to Twitter early Tuesday morning (March 20) and confirmed that she was one of the people shot. "Got shot and I'm not dead. #LoveLifeAndGod," she wrote.

The police report confirms that Honey was struck in the arm and was transported to Creighton University Medical Center. The second victim, Derrick Lowe, was grazed in his hip and refused treatment at the scene.

The confrontation began while Tyga was onstage getting set to perform his hit single "Rack City," the last song from his set. A group of concertgoers began to throw things on stage, which seemed to infuriate the rapper. Footage of the incident made its way to YouTube shortly after. In the clip, an enraged Tyga begins shouting, "Who threw it?" before urging the culprit to see him outside after the show.

The report cites a disturbance at the concert hall and states that Tyga and company were followed by a black four-door sedan as they left the scene in their van. Police observed several bullet holes in the victim's vehicle, but no one was seriously injured. The investigation is ongoing, police say.

On February 29, Honey Cocaine joined Tyga when he appeared on "RapFix Live" and spit a verse for the camera. The Toronto MC also sat and chopped it with Sway about her plans for the future with Tyga. "Me, I'm building," she said. "We're building together, but we both do our own thing."

Development of Porsche 918 supercar progressing nicely

Porsche 918 prototype

"This is most definitely not a Prius." So says ex-Autoblog staffer Damon Lavrinc in a story written for Wired. The non-Prius-esque vehicle to which he's referring? The Porsche 918.

We know all about the concept and how it stole the show at the at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. We know that interest in the plug-in hybrid supercar was so strong that Porsche pulled out all the stops to get the vehicle into its production plans as soon as possible. We know it will cost $845,000 and be able to hit 60 miles per hour in a scant 3.1 seconds. What we hadn't known until now, though, is how far along into its development Porsche's team of engineers had gotten.

It seems there are currently three 918 development mules in existence, and Lavrinc got to ride shotgun at the Nardo Test Track in one of them. Though it was limited to half its available power - full power being a generous 770 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque with an overboost offering up to 700 lb-ft for short periods - it was still an exciting ride, and it's telling that Porsche was confident enough in its Franken-mule to allow anyone to go on record this far ahead of September 18, 2013, the car's official launch date.

We suggest you head on over to Wired to peruse the full article, and feel free to mosey on back to let us know what you think of the 918's potential.
